The Arizona House voted to repeal an 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions in the state. Three Republicans joined 29 Democrats to repeal it. It now heads to the Arizona Senate for consideration. This 1864 law came into the limelight after the state Supreme Court ruled in April 2024 the law is still applicable and outlaws nearly all abortions. Prior to voting, members from both parties participated in passionate debate.
