With a $7,000 initial campaign chest and her students as her campaign staff, she won the 2000 Democratic nomination as congressional representative for Nevada’s 2nd district, which includes Reno, and made an impressive showing against the incumbent. She has since run unsuccessfully for statewide office and continues to teach. The guest interviewer was Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton.
