Thomas Buergenthal, the American judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, recalled his childhood during the Holocaust. He was a survivor of two labor camps and one of the youngest prisoners at Auschwitz. He was reunited with his mother at a Polish orphanage a year after his liberation. Judge Buergentahl talked about his experiences and the various ways people behaved in those circumstances. He answered questions from members of the audience. 
Thomas Buergenthal is the author of A Lucky Child: A Memoir of Surviving Auschwitz as a Young Boy, published by Little, Brown, and Company. He has served on the U.N. Human Rights Committee, Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and President’s Commission on the Holocaust.
