She said the department's $13.9B budget proposal had two main priorities: pathways to good jobs and protecting workers, especially those most vulnerable to exploitation. The Arizona Senate voted to repeal an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions in the state. Two Republicans joined 14 Democrats to repeal it. This 1864 law came into the limelight after the state Supreme Court ruled in April 2024 the law was still applicable and outlawed nearly all abortions. Members from both parties described the impacts of miscarriages, played recorded audio of heartbeats from the womb, and raised concerns about the age of the law as they passionately expressed the reason for their vote and, at times, criticized the votes of their colleagues.
