AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka talked about the U.S. economy and jobs, their impact on the 2010 midterm election campaigns, and the labor movement's role in 2010 elections. On Friday, August 6, 2010, the Labor Department announced that the U.S. unemployment rate stayed at 9.5 percent in July and fewer jobs were created than were expected. Labor unions have been more selective with endorsements and campaign contributions this cycle, working against some candidates who have not actively supported their legislative priorities.
