Rich Benjamin talked about his book Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America (Hyperion; (October 6, 2009). In his book he explores the growing phenomenon of self-imposed residential segregation, arguing that as the country becomes more diverse, the creation of all-white communities is on the rise. He talked about the months he spent living in three representative "whitopias," which he characterizes as being among the fastest-growing communities, populated by white migrants, and charming escapes from racial and cultural diversity. He responded to questions from members of the audience. Mr. Benjamin is a senior fellow at Demos and a commentator for National Public Radio and Fox Radio.
