Senate Budget Committee Chair Kent Conrad (D-ND) held a news conference on the release of the House Republican fiscal year 2013 budget proposal. Senator Conrad said the spending limits agreed to the previous summer in Budget Control Act were intended to serve as the budget for 2013. He further stated that the House plan, which includes an overhaul of Medicare and Social Security programs, seems to “walk away” from the budget deal and will ultimately threaten a government shutdown. close
