Justices Kennedy and Thomas testified about the fiscal year 2007 budget proposal for the U.S. Supreme Court for $76.4 million, a 16 percent increase from fiscal year 2006. Topics included personnel salary increases and building modernization and security. They noted that there are two new Justices on the Court and praised retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Justices Thomas and Kennedy expressed opposition to televising of Supreme Court oral arguments, saying that recent congressional legislation on the topic were inconsistent with Separation of Powers of the three branches of government. close
