Three immigrant authors now living in the U.S talked about the struggles they faced in their home countries and their adjustments to life in America. All three discussed the craft of writing -- choosing a voice, the relationship between fact and truth, and writing in a foreign language. They also responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.

Ms. Karen Stabiner moderated the panel.

Loung Ung is the author of Lucky Child: A Daughter of Cambodia Reunites with the Sister She Left Behind, published by HarperCollins. Her previous book was First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, published by Harper Perennial. She is the national spokeswoman for the Campaign for a Landmine Free World. Ms. Ung lost her parents and two sisters to the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

Ved Mehta wrote The Red Letters: My Father’s Enchanted Period, published by Thunder’s Mouth, Nation Books. It is the eleventh book in his Continents of Exile series. Mr. Mehta close
