Alan Weisman talked about his book The World without Us, published by Thomas Dunne Books. His book describes what would happen to the Earth if humans suddenly disappeared. The book was based on his 2005 essay “Earth Without People.” He talked about how the remnants of human habitation would disappear, the changes in animal life, and the effect of abandoned chemical stores and nuclear reactors. He also talked about reducing population growth. Mr. Weisman responded to questions from members of the audience.

The event, which took place in Mount Holyoke’s Gamble Auditorium, was cosponsored by the Mount Holyoke Center for the Environment and the Odyssey Bookshop. close
