At the opening dinner of a conference on international solutions to global problems, participants spoke about the price of being dedicated to peaceful resolution of conflicts. Former President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev spoke about the lessons of 20th century history and how they apply to the next century, including the need to develop international institutions which are capable of dealing with new crises and the need for equitable development in developing countries. Then, several speakers paid tribute to former Israeli Prime Minister Rabin. Finally, Anwar Sadat’s widow ended the session with an emotional tribute to her late husband. close
