Secretary of Education Richard Riley and Secretary of Labor Robert Reich today briefed the media and took questions on the School-To- Work Opportunities Act. The officials explained that this Act, the recently passed Goals 2000 Law, and the Reemployment Act are the building blocks upon which to build education and are part of the President’s “lifetime learning agenda.” The School-To-Work Opportunities Act uses innovative means of teaching to help students make the connection between school and the workplace and to help them enjoy the learning process. The Act helps young people, who may not be going on to 4-year colleges, gain the foundations skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Media questions centered on projected funds for the School-To-Work Opportunities Act.
