Mr. Johnson talked about his book, Wild Grass: Three Stories of Change in Modern China, published by Pantheon Books. In the book, the author argues that there exists a growing tension between China’s stagnant political system and its thriving civil society. He discusses his own experiences during his time as a correspondent in Beijing. He claims that the current Chinese government will prove a source of long-term instability, and predicts that its inadequacy to meet the increasing demands of its citizens will lead to its eventual downfall. During his presentation, he detailed his experiences with the Chinese people, and then read an excerpt from his book describing individuals he interviewed. close
