Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions. In a portion of the briefing he called the release by Mitt Romney’s campaign of a 1998 audio recording of President Obama commenting on the “redistribution of wealth” as an attempt to take the light off of his own statement that 47 percent of Americans see themselves as “victims.” He said that when a political campaign is having a bad day or week, there are sometimes “desperate efforts to change the subject.”
