White House Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken spoke before the daily White House briefing. He told reporters that the evidence Syrian President Assad used chemical weapons against his people was “beyond a reasonable doubt.” He also talked about the efforts to convince members of Congress to authorize the use of military force., saying that a military strike would let President Assad know that chemical weapons would not be allowed and could advance the larger goals in Syria of ending the civil war. Then Press Secretary Jay Carney acknowledged that American people were weary of war after Iraq and Afghanistan but that the president would make his case to explain why it was important for U.S. national security. close
