The panel talked about the effects of poverty in the U.S.. Paul Tough interviewed Geoffrey Canada. Mr. Tough is wrote a biography of Mr. Canada. Mr. Canada argued that children in poverty must be assisted dually in the educational system and the community. The panel talked about the prevalence of sexual violence, childhood poverty, socio-economic barriers that lead to the cycle of poverty, and attempts by educational organizations to educate children.
The Harlem Children's Zone is an educational group that targets the impoverished from pregnant mothers through secondary school. It has been successful in student retention and abilities.
