Professor Michael Sandel from Harvard University spoke about the importance of economic conditions on civic virtue. He argued that U.S. thinkers had long agreed that civic consequences were the most important factor in determining economic policy and only in the post-war era has this shifted to an emphasis on individual consequences of economic policy. He argued that this change was partly responsible for the loss of civic virtue in U.S. society. close
