Edward Ayers, Dean of the College and Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, spoke about his book What Caused The Civil War?: Reflections on the South and Southern History, published by W. W. Norton and Company. The book is a collection of essays that look at the roots of the Civil War and the New South after the war. The author also discussed the reasons why he believes the South is still a divisive topic in American history. Following his presentation, Professor Ayers responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.
