Professor Shmuel Bar said hopes for a nuclear-free Middle East were unrealistic in light of circumstances in Iran. He described waning U.S. influence in the region, and warned that nuclear proliferation could lead to a similar problem in Asia as countries began to rely less on America’s ability to project a nuclear deterrent.

“The Feasibility of Deterrence in a Poly-Nuclear Middle East” was an address at the Fifth Annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit, “Maintaining a Credible Deterrent Amidst Funding Constraints,” held February 19-22, 2013, at the Renaissance Capital View Hotel by ExchangeMonitor Publications and Forums. close
