Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Purdum talked about the morning headlines including the Clinton-Dole rivalry and Senator Dole’s campaign finances. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Jasinowski and Mr. McEntee talked about current issues including Senator Dole’s presidential campaign and his agenda as a candidate. In the next segment, Mr. Meyer talked about the necessity of the closing of Pennsylvania Avenue for security reasons. In the final segment, Mr. Robinson talked about plans for making the White House and its surrounding parks part of the city of Washington D.C., and making it more accessable to the public.
