Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Nelson talked about current headlines, including the congressional agenda and President Clinton’s trip to Asia. In the newspaper roundtable, Ms. Achtenberg and Mr. Woodson talked current headlines and other issues, including urban development. In the final segment, Secretary Babbitt talked about environmental issues and criticized Republicans in Congress for trying to undo existing environmental protection programs.
