Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Clymer discussed current events, including the possible government shutdown, Colin Powell’s decision not to run for president, and the impact of Prime Minister Rabin’s assassination. Mr. DeParle talked about his story about Senator Dole’s Chief of Staff, Sheila Burke. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Sidey and Mr. Plante discussed current issues. In the final segment, Rep. Gibbons talked about the two separate looming fiscal crises, a possible government shutdown and the debt limit extension. close
