James Davison Hunter and Morris Fiorina talked about “culture wars” and whether America is more or less culturally divided than previously. Mr. Hunter believes our culture is embroiled in a major clash of ideas, while Mr. Fiorina contends that America today is no more divided now than in the past and tends to agree on most of the major issues. They responded to questions from members of the audience.

James Davison Hunter is the director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the the University of Virginia. His books include Is There a Culture War?: A Dialogue on Values And American Public Life, published by Brookings Institution Press. Morris Fiorina is a professor of political science at Stanford. His books include Culture War? The Myth of a Polarized America, published by Longman.
