Mr. Oren is the author of Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East, published by Oxford University Press. The book chronicles the events of the six-day-long Arab-Israeli War, which resulted in redrawn borders, changes in leadership, and a new balance of power. Mr. Oren writes about the roles of major figures in the war such as Moshe Dayan, Gamal Abdul Nasser, Lyndon Johnson, and Alexei Kosygin and explains the Six Day War in the larger context of the Cold War. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience.

Michael Oren is also the author of The Origins of the Second Arab-Israeli War: Egypt, Israel and the Great Powers, 1952-56, published by Frank Cass and Co. He is an American who has lived in Israel for more than 25 years. He worked as Director of Israel’s Department of Inter-Religious Affairs during the administration of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Mr. Oren currently heads the Middle East History Project at Jerusalem’s Shalem Center, an institute for Jewish social thought and public policy.
