Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson gave the commencement address to the 2014 graduating class at Wake Forest University. She talked about women she admires who faced discrimination, the pain of loss, and discovering one’s own resilience.

The New York Times fired Ms. Abramson the previous week amid various competing rumors. She reportedly was let go after she discovered her pay and pension were considerably less than that of her male predecessor and confronted her bosses about it. The newspaper, however, released a statement citing her management style as a reason for dismissal. close
