The House Judiciary and Government Oversight joint committee investigated the failed February 28,1993 Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau raid on the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Texas in which four ATF agents were killed. Also under investigation was the April 19 FBI raid on the compound with tanks and tear gas and the resultant fire in which 80 cult members died, including their leader David Koresh. A panel of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials and others testified about the February 28 raid and whether or not David Koresh knew of the imminent raid and whether the raid should have been aborted. close
