Olivier Knox, who wrote a Yahoo! News story about President Obama’s March 2014 90-minute phone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin about Crimea, talked about the history of American presidents personally reaching out to other world leaders during times of crisis through “telephone diplomacy.” He described the process for setting up the phone call, background preparation for the call, and what happens during the calls. He also said that the first phone was installed in the White House in 1877 during the Rutherford B. Hayes administration.

C-SPAN Radio’s Nancy Calo read news headlines at the conclusion of the program. close
