After holding ten hearings last year, the National Commission on the Voting Rights Act today is releasing its report, “Protecting Minority Voters: The Voting Rights Act, 1982-2005,” on its findings of voter discrimination nationwide. Certain provisions of the Voting Rights Act are set to expire August 6, 2007, unless Congress renews them. A House Judiciary Subcommittee plans to continue its hearings on the Act next month.
