The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held a hearing on video franchising. The hearing was one of a series of hearings on telecommunications issues held by the committee to consider changes to telecommunications regulations and the state of competition in the industry. Telephone and cable company executives, consumer advocates, and other officials testified about barriers delivering video programming content through telephone systems, competition between cable and telephone service companies, state and local controls on video services, the implementation of new technologies, and current proposals to change cable industry regulations. close
