Prior to the vice presidential debate, telephone lines were open for comments on expectations for the candidates. Debate organizers spoke about the event and to the audience in attendance about expected behavior and decorum during the live televised coverage of the debate. Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton welcomed the audience, and student Brittany Perez spoke on the importance of participating in the political process.
