Vice President Gore and Republican candidate Kemp participated in the
only scheduled vice presidential debate. They repeatedly pointed out
detailed differences between the Dole and Clinton presidential
campaigns on tax policy, the economy, Medicare and foreign policy.
The debate, notable for its civility, was moderated by Mr. Lehrer and
the two candidates stood at separate podium. Afterward they shook
hands and greeted members of their families. The debate was held at
Mahaffey Theater.
