In the first nationally televised vice presidential debate, Senators Mondale and Dole debate domestic and foreign policy issues. In this debate each candidate had 2 minutes and 15 seconds to answer and rebut and 1 minute to respond. Most notably perhaps, Senator Mondale labeled Senator Dole as a “hatchet man” after Dole called all the 20th century U.S. Democrat wars because Democrats were president when the U.S. got involved.
