Jules Witcover talked about his book Very Strange Bedfellows: The Short and Unhappy Marriage of Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew, published by PublicAffairs. In his book Mr. Witcover explores the relationship between President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew. The author contends that although he valued Spiro Agnew’s divisive rhetoric, President Nixon kept Vice President Agnew outside of his close group of political advisers and contemplated eliminating him from the re-election ticket in 1972. Vice President Agnew resigned in 1973 after he was charged with the crime of tax evasion related to bribery scandals during his term as governor of Maryland. Mr. Witcover responded to questions from members of the audience. close
