Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first section, Mr. Dahl discussed current issues including the government shutdow. Laura Ingraham talked about the Republican’s “Dark Ages” weekend in Miami by telephone. In the newspaper roundtable, Bernard and Marvin Kalb (brothers) spoke about current issues, including the budget impasse and its effects. Mr. McCormack, nephew of former House Speaker John McCormack, discussed and refuted some of the comments made about his uncle by Richard Ben-Veniste on a previous Washington Journal.
