Historians spoke on a panel titled “The Hudson River as America’s Corridor of Commerce.” Professor Marshall moderated.

Thomas Carroll showed slides during his talk “The Hudson: Silicon Valley of the Nineteenth Century.”

Patrick E. Martin used slides during his talk “The West Point Foundry and American Industrialization.”

Cynthia Owen Philip showed some slides during her talk “Robert Fulton: Global Transportation Whiz.” She is the author of Robert Fulton: A Biography (IUniverse (January 7, 2003).

“America’s First River: The Hudson” was a three-day conference celebrating the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage in 1609. This session of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Conference was held at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009, in the visitors center of the FDR Presidential Library and Historic Site in Hyde Park. close
