Following a brief video, USAID officials announced the findings of a major vaccine trial in Gambia. The trial of large numbers of children in a typically rural African setting showed that preventing pneumococcal pneumonia and meningitis by vaccinating infants could lead to a major reduction in child mortality in developing countries. Some of the key investigators explained the clinical trial vaccination process and talked about the pathogens involved in pneumonia and meningitis.
