Richard White talked about the National Research Council’s Transportation Research Board’s Special Report, “The Role of Transit in Emergency Evacuation” that was released Tuesday. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. Mr. White is the chairman of committee that released the study. He led a review of 38 urban areas' evacuation plans and then conducted in-depth case studies of Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City/northern New Jersey, and Tampa, Forida. The study was requested by Representative Bill Pascrell.

Representative Pascrell, participating by phone, discussed his role in obtaining the “The Role of Transit in Emergency Evacuation” study. He originally sponsored language in the 2005 federal highway bill requiring the study of transit systems role in emergency evacuations. close
