Ms. Shabazz, daughter of the late civil rights activists Malcom X and Betty Shabazz, discussed her coming of age memoir, Growing Up X, published by One World. It details her childhood experiences as one of the six daughters of the Black Muslim leader. She was two years old when Malcolm X was assassinated. It was not until her college years that she recognized her father’s contributions to civil rights movement and the activism that was expected from her by those influenced by him. Mr. Gregory joined the presentation and discussed his book, Callus On My Soul, published by Longstreet Press. There was a question and answer session following the presentation.
