Witnesses testified regarding financial reporting and disclosure rules for labor unions. Supporters of new rules argued that the old financial disclosure forms were outdated and provided such broad categories that they were essentially meaningless. They claimed that new regulations would allow union members, the public, and government officials to see the financial information of each union more clearly and better determine how money was spent. Opponents worried that the new rules would place an undue burden on labor unions, and would not accomplish their stated goals.
