A plenary session on the final day of the Education Department’s 2005 National Conference on Safe and Drug-Free Schools focused on issues affecting underserved populations and future challenges. Mr. Jourdain spoke about the struggles of his Native American people and plans that were disrupted by the March 21, 2005 shooting at a Red Lake school. Mr. Xiong spoke about the adaptation of the Hmong people. Ms. MacRae and Ms. Perreault spoke about challenges for rural schools. The Rev. Fiske used slides to contrast the beauty of central California with the poverty of the people. close
