Retired Lieutenant General Sanchez, who had led U.S. forces in Iraq for a year after the 2003 invasion, spoke about the implementation of military strategy in Iraq. He was highly critical of the Bush administration planning and conduct of military operations, saying that the war plan was “catastrophically flawed,” and criticized the National Security Council and State Department for their part in Iraq policy. He also criticized the current troop increase in Iraq, describing it as “a desperate attempt by the administration that has not accepted the political and economic realities of this war.” Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
