After an introduction by Ambassador Baker, Vice President Cheney made a speech at the Hotel Okura. He talked about the history and future of U.S.-Japan relations. Among the issues addressed were long-term peace in the Pacific, anti-proliferation efforts, the situation in Iraq, and efforts to combat terrorism. Following prepared remarks, the vice president responded to questions from the audience.

This event commemorated the 150th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the United States and Japan. close
