Committee members heard testimony on the continuing U.S. involvement in maintaining order in Haiti and the activities of Haitian police forces. U.S. troops have been stationed there since September 1994. Several Republican members accused the administration of supporting a criminal regime and keeping certain documents from the committee and Democratic members responded that this hearing was politically motivated.
