At a National Press Club Luncheon, Mr. Fernandez spoke on education reform and the need to change schools in order to graduate more students and decrease dropouts. He stressed early intervention and education for preschoolers and kindergarten. The Council of the Great City Schools works to assist large urban district schools. Questions from the audience asked about school safety, improving SAT scores, bilingual education, shrinking the size of urban school districts and Head Start programs. close
