Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke testified about the state of the economy, governmental financial policy, and federal spending priorities. In his testimony he warned of an impending “fiscal crisis” if Congress failed to curb the projected growth of federal spending on retirement and health care programs and that “the effects on the U.S. economy would be severe” if the government’s debt were allowed to balloon as forecast. close
