Harold Varmus delivered an address on global health planning to the 2008 David E. Barnes Global Health Lecture. Dr. Varmus is the co-chair of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on the U.S. Commitment to Global Health, which the previous day released its interim report The U.S. Commitment to Global Health: Recommendations for the New Administration. Dr. Varmus spoke on the reports' findings. After his presentation, which included charts and graphs, he responded to questions from the audience.

Harold Varmus, president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, is a former director of the National Institutes of Health and co-recipient of a Nobel Prize for studies of the genetic basis of cancer. close
