Rear Admiral Karl Schwartz talked about the role of the Coast Guard both domestically and internationally, its role as the military and maritime arm of the Department of Homeland Security, military capability, and humanitarian expertise. Other topics included the Coast Guard reauthorization bill, concerns over possible budget cuts, and the Coast Guard’s newest intelligent vessel, the “Stratton.” He responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
