During a joint hearing of the International Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on Africa and the Subcommittee on International Economic Policy and Trade, members head testimony from government and other trade experts on U.S.-Africa trade relations. Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Jeffery Lang said African growth has fallen dramatically over the last few years because of barriers such as high trade tariffs, which are much higher than other developing nations. He said that opening up Africa to the global market is the key to helping Africa become a continent with competitive countries. close
