Prichard discussed his newspaper’s procedures for assuring that late-breaking stories make deadlines, and he complained that the Pentagon’s “prior review” rules are unnecessary and inhibit the media in informing the public of vital information. He explained that “prior review” was not employed in the Vietnam war, and yet there were few security breaches resulting from the less restrictive review. While he admitted that the electronic media has immediacy in reporting, he believes that the coherence, context and perspective which newspapers have to offer is often lacking in live electronic reporting.
