Panelists talked about the implications of the U.S. 2012 elections for U.S.-Latin America policy opportunities regarding immigration, trade agreements, economic cooperation, and drug policy. They also discussed the rise of the Latino population and voters in the recent election and their impact on Obama administration immigration and trade policies. Topics included the implications of the legalization of marijuana in certain U.S. states for drug policy in Mexico. In addition, the speakers compared China’s relations with Latin and South America to its relationship with the U.S. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
